On July 13, 2022, we lost our dear friend, Nick Lung, at the age of 93. Nick was a local pilot, flight instructor and aviation promotor for the Ogle County Airport. Mr. Lung started his flying career in the US Air Force flying P51 Mustangs, then transitioning into fighter jets. After his military service, Nick flew for United Airlines and was qualified in nearly every commercial aircraft. He taught numerous local people to fly and was instrumental in the formation of the Ogle County Pilots group and the Ogle County Airport. Nick was also active in local Experimental Aircraft Association chapters. Mr. Lung was inducted into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame in 2011 (http://www.ilavhalloffame.org/members_11.htm#lung). We all miss our friend, but forever keep his memories alive.
With all of the monetary donations received, the OCPI board decided to have a personalized bench created and displayed at the Ogle County Airport in memory of Nick Lung. This bench can be found located on the south side of the club house and can be utilized by anyone who wishes to sit and watch aircraft fly in and/or out or for those who wish to just to sit and enjoy the peacefulness of the airport. Special thank you to OCPI board member, Jerry Hose II, for volunteering his time to assemble the bench (top picture). Ogle County Airport manager, Tj Graden, (bottom picture) enjoys a few relaxing minutes while he tries out the new memorial bench. |
November 13, 2022 ~ Two young lads visited the Ogle County Airport and participated in the Young Eagles program. For one of these young men, it was a special day for he was celebrating his birthday! Both boys are pictured with Jon Bargren, Young Eagles flight instructor at the Ogle County Airport.
At the Ogle County Airport, we are fortunate to have a variety of aircraft utilize the facility. An ultralight decided to visit in the evening on Sun, July 5th.
The Mercyhealth REACT helicopter landed at the Ogle Co. Airport this morning (6/30/2020) to pick up and airlift an individual who was involved in an accident at a facility in Mt. Morris today. Prayers going to the person who was injured. Thank you Joe Garinger for capturing these pictures of the helicopter and those medical heros in action!
Young Eagle / Eagle Event Day a Success!
